Dreaming is a part of life, but it is a primary resource for an entrepreneur. Ever since my childhood, I have always pondered the possibility of starting a business. Lemonade stands, apple stands, kid made potholders sold door to door (that didn't last long), lawn care, even a rock-n-roll band, all of these were ideas constantly brewing in my mind. But owning a sandwich shop or a restaurant has been at the top of the list. Why? I do not know why. Some things cannot be explained. When the opportunity presented itself to purchase a building with a full commercial kitchen and multiple dining rooms, the dreaming stopped and reality kicked in. Welcome to my dream come true.
History of our Location:
In 1908 ten women met in Beaver Falls to do something about neglected and dependant children in Beaver County. The result of their initiative was the dream of building the Beaver County Children's Home. The women went door to door, to churches and local organizations, soliciting funds. The Carr residence in New Brighton was adapted and in the first 18 months, 55 children received care.
In 1912, a residence was purchased on Penn Avenue in New Brighton and it served until 1924 when it became obvious that a larger facility was needed. The expansion in 1925 is shown above in the architect's drawing. Additions to the building were made as the mission of the Center expanded to include the County Children's Aid Society, a program by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and most recently, New Brighton Cares, Inc.
The present owners, David and Nancy Davies, have renamed the building The Penn Professional Center, to house three businesses:
